A Beginner's Guide to Sugar Body Scrubs
Share
What makes sugar the ideal exfoliant?
Not all exfoliants are created equal. Sugar stands out for three key reasons: it's gentle enough for most skin types, it dissolves completely in water, and its natural glycolic acid content helps resurface skin as you scrub. Unlike harsh walnut shell or salt, sugar granules have smooth, rounded edges that buff without tearing the skin's surface.
How to use your sugar body scrub
Here's how to get the most out of your scrub:
- Start in the shower. Wet your skin with warm water for 1–2 minutes to open your pores and soften the skin's surface.
- Apply to damp (not soaking) skin. Scoop a small amount of scrub and apply it directly to damp skin.
- Use gentle, circular motions. Work the scrub in slow, circular movements — think massage, not scrub. Focus on rough patches like knees and elbows.
- Let the oils absorb for 30 seconds. Before rinsing, pause for half a minute to let the nourishing oils and butters sink in.
- Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Your skin should feel soft and slightly dewy — not stripped.
How often should you exfoliate?
This depends on your skin type:
- Normal to oily skin: 2–3 times per week
- Dry or sensitive skin: 1–2 times per week
- Very sensitive or reactive skin: Once a week or less — and always patch test first
Over-exfoliating strips the skin barrier and can cause redness, irritation, or increased dryness.
What to do after exfoliating
Freshly exfoliated skin absorbs moisture more effectively than at any other time. While your skin is still slightly warm from the shower, apply a nourishing body butter or lotion to lock in hydration. If your scrub already contains oils like coconut or shea butter — as ours do — you may find you need very little additional moisturizer or none at at all.
Why ingredients matter
Some scrubs combine sugar with synthetic fragrances, artificial dyes, or mineral oil — ingredients that can trigger sensitivity or clog pores. At KASIMA, we formulate with coconut oil, shea butter, almond oil, jojoba oil and natural vanilla — no synthetic fragrances, dyes or fillers. The result is a scrub that exfoliates and nourishes in a single step.
Ready to try it?
If you're new to body scrubs, start with once a week and see how your skin responds. Most people notice softer, smoother skin after just one or two uses.
